When I used to buy options, would buy at the money or in the money ones with only two weeks to expiry to minimize premium. If I was wrong, I'd get out in a day or two. When I sold options naked, I would sell the ones that were out of the money in the direction that the market was going, and sell them for a month out in advance to make the most premium. It usually worked out, but rarely did I stay in for very long, particularly when I had bought some.

If you are looking at LEAPs next time, let me know, so that I will look at the weekly chart for you. That would be a more appropriate timeframe, I think.
