Cary,
Great story. Duke was one of the three great center fielders in NY in the 50's(Mays,Mantle,Snider). All the kids had their favorite team and their favorite CFielder.
I kept rooting for the Giants even after they moved to SF and actively followed them for many years. Even this team has a linear relationship to the old team with Barry Bonds(Bobby). Dodger fans as i recall never rooted for them again after they left. When i was a teenager and life was more simple than it is today, or so it seemed, I used to listen to recreations of the SF Giant games done by Les Keiter in NY. I would get home from High School(Christopher Columbus) and the games would begin at 4pm. I remember vividly listening to the Yankee Dodger subway series in 1955 and 1956 as a 10 year old in public school(PS 105 BX) over the loud speaker system. It meant everything back then. Sorry for the trip down memory lane. Tony and I always get to baseball talk on days like this. Mike
