9+ billion $ -- Wow Microsoft, Dell, Cisco, and I guess Intel are all beneficiaries! Looks really good for the Nasdaq next week!

<< Electronic Data Systems' major subcontractors on the project are Raytheon, MCI WorldCom, Cisco, WAM!NET, Dell and Microsoft. >>

Why no mention of ORCL or SUNW? Is it possible that they are not the vendors of choice?!

Oracle's out, Sun's down. This is a trend we will continue to see, IMO. Microsoft's basket of products is too impressive for the market to ignore.

johnd: And this is just the Navy. This could expand to 50 billion and further endorse W2K and SQL as the database system of choice throughout the government. DOJ contract will probably be worth 1/2 a billion! JFD

On any Government contract that states potentially worth $9 billion, you have to take it with a grain of salt. They try to hook contractors with Indefinite Quantity contracts that have guaranteed minimums and then usually due to budget cuts, the amount is toward the lower end of the spectrum. I've rarely seen them used to get the maximum. I'd much prefer commercial contracts than Government.knc
