And in closing, a little humor, also from Zim on Yahoo but this time on the DELL thread.

Does your system crash ? Give us your cash.

Does your keyboard stick ? Give us a click.

Does mouse act funky ? Trade in "old clunky".

PC going to hell ? Time to call Dell !

Rude - tell Zimchic thanks. That's what I was trying
to say but Zimchic did a better (superior) job.

It usually falls on deaf ears however.

rudedog, That is the quintessential diatribe of the person who stays on the beaten path and buys Dell because they buy Intel. In the good old days they were the kind who bought IBM. Well times are changing and those problems are well in the past. I have seen numerous Compaq, IBM, Dell and screwdriver shop clones working quite well on a mixed network. Check out your local schools. they often start with a class ful of same kinds, but soon they float around here and there and very mixed classes result.
There are even a few classrooms filled with Macs and imacs on a mixed network...all workig quite well.
When you have a unified set of AMD systems in the corporation, then there is no problem is there? That is what he says, is it not? Just do not mix processors.
What a load of blather. dell would like you to think that you will have problems if you add non dell systems....well, you will not have problems.
I think that he has overblown the problems. He is comparing systems made by Dell with either AMD or Intel parts to variegated clones made with the cheapest of parts.
Now what makes you feel that a Compaq system made with AMD will not fit with other Compaq ystems made with Intel parts?
Parts and hard drives will be similar and in fact they can be standardused. Same for network cards, video cards etc.
just do not pick the cheapest of the cheap cards.

rudedog, It look like he might not understand the meaning of heterogeneity....it means a well assorted network.
A homogeneous network would be identical systems connected.
