Actually the Democrats historically have been masters of the personal attack. That's how they got into power in the first place after all, isn't it? Personal attacks on the wealthy and those who create wealth.

Now, if a Republican turns the tables and gets aggressive, the Democrat recoils in feigned surprise and hurt, and claims s/he is being personally and unfairly attacked. A hysterical example is when Lazio approached Hillary Clinton with a proposed agreement during their debate, and the liberals cried that he was "invading her space."
