First, "unless the markets go to zero"....wont take many more days like this to make it a reality <lol> On a serious note....I understand part, but not all of your statement. You say no such thing as a margin call, because you'll do 3 things. Sell Leaps. Understand that great, no problem. Buy more if it's a company you want. That I dont understand at all. With a margin call, you buy more stock. How is this possible? Certainly the leaps you write dont get you out of margin AND allow you to go on a buying spree??? Tell them to kiss my ass. I understand how that makes YOU feel good, but still dont see how that gets you out of a margin call <ggg> So I understand 1 out of 3. I'd love to understand the other 2, because margin calls became oh so very real to me this past spring. Selling leaps would not have gotten me out of it. Would have helped lower the MC, but it would not have gotten me out of the call. Selling stock was the only option. Anyway, in my full service account that I really dont trade in, I sold 1/3 of my lpth to lock in gains, sold cmgi and took a loss, bought a little more SSTI, and in the process cleared away 98% of margin. So, no worries there, except that the stocks I have eventually go upward. In my trading account. As of close yesterday, I was using 37%margin, while equity sat at 63 obviously. Again, this is slightly deceiving because of the calls I own. They are not counted in the old equity area and if I added the value of these calls to my equity, then obviously my margin would be alot lower. Anyway, I am hoping I have enough of a buffer if the market keeps heading downward, but I guess that all depends on how much further down we go. TIA, as always Keith@whichwayisthemarketgonnago.com
