5 consecutive weeks lower on Nas: Looks like last time was March-April 1997. We had 4 straight down weeks this May, as you probably noticed. July-August 98 just barely missed putting 7 together. Otherwise, there've been several near misses--such as Sept-Oct 97--as well as some really wonderful streaks in '94, '90, and '87 where the market paused and moved sideways without any significant rally before resuming downward, but looks like the last five-straight-weekly-drops prior to '97 was '84. In short, I think we can safely conclude that we live in interesting times. If you need certain info for an appearance on Moneyweek or something, I'll double-check for you. Wouldn't want George W. Bush to accuse you of exaggerating.

Looking at the long-term chart, by the way, Oct 85 to Oct 86 seems to parallel Oct-Nov 99 to Oct 00 with surprising precision, though, obviously, the Nasdaq was a different world back then, in a different universe. The October low led to a flat fourth quarter, a rally to new highs, and what some here may remember as a bit of a hiccup in the Fall of '87.

Oops! Knew I'd miss something: During July-Aug 1990 Nas put together 6 straight lower closes. Missed it because one week rallied from a low (up candlestick), but failed to close above previous week's close. So that looks like the record. Was another really fun period, helped along by Saddam Hussein, as slide lurched its way down again to an October low, followed with a meek Q4, had to wait for a New Year rally.

flatsville: I don't keep track of those things for my trading system...sorry! Hopefully others who populate this thread will be able to answer you.

If you don't get a reply, you might pose the question to Donald Sew on the Attack Thread...he is a statistics dude...<g>
