Jimbo - Re: "Don't you see a couple of problems here?..By announcing Tualatin P-III, didn't Intel say that P-III was going to be mainstream in 2001? "

Don't you see a problem here - Intel has NEVER ANNOUNCED a Tualatin Pentium III ?

In reality, the Tualatin will fill the notebook market space with a fast, large L2 cache (512K) CPU - a market which could reach 25 or 30 million units in 2001.

Re: "So Almador will be capable of working with a P-III AND a P-4? All I can say is that I wish Intel a lot of luck."

I think this is in error - and anybody with a brain should be skeptical of details in the media.

Re: "I wonder if this has Rambus' approval or not. It looked for a minute there that Rambus was going to sue AMD and Transmeta and not Intel over DDR. Perhaps, in a smoke filled room, there is a deal for Intel to pay Rambus DDR royalties. "

I would suspect that Intel and Rambus are having a meeting of the minds - as you suggest.

As for paying royalties, Intel can just pass off the royalties they are getting from VIA - and hand them over to RAMBUS.

Not a problem for Intel.

Big problem for AMD !

Paul
