C'mon Ron

I said:
To me, [urban crime] is a public health problem and should be handled accordingly.

You said:
What?! Are you advocating extermination?

How do you get that from what I said? That's simply nuts or you're intentionally trying to misrepresent what I said. I can't imagine why you would be doing that unless what I say interferes with your belief system in some very basic, emotional way.

How do public health officials handle syphilis? Extermination? Typhus? Extermination? The flu? Extermination? You can't really be that ignorant of what public health is or how public health is done in industrialized and compassionate countries. This is supposed to be a discussion forum for moderates but it's a free country and even extremists are allowed their day in the sun. Enjoy.

Further, its not that there aren't any role models for minorities, its that they aren't highly visible in places where there is urban blight. Again, that seems obvious.

You seem convinced that your opinions are universally true and that people that act differently from you are doing so entirely of their own volition and with intentional disrespect to your values. I disagree. They are acting in a way that is entirely consistent with what they saw and learned from experience. I could show you dozens of animal model experiments that support my position, but I suspect that you would reach back into your own sphere of knowledge and say "I wouldn't do that" to yourself, therefore THEY shouldn't do that. You would also probably say people aren't animals. Well I beg to differ. They are animals and they respond in much the same way.

There have been studies that show that cats raised in a world with incorrect visual cues NEVER recover from the experience, even when introduced into normal environments. You don't have to be too smart to see the analogs in society.
