Here is a cut and paste of my editorial... <snip> paging services to work in!! Gee!! How Inconvenient! Imagine the same "review " of a Globalstar Phone.. The phone and service worked "fantastic" in the US.. But, I found that when I traveled to Brasil, I could only make calls out on the phone. But was unable to receive calls. Further, on my "African Safari" the phone did not work at all.. etc.. <snip> This is meant to imply what the same author would comment about Globalstar service, since the author complained about having to phone a 800 number to re-configure the system so it knew which section of the world the Iridium pager would work in! The last thing I heard is that a G* USA phone would only make calls whilst roaming in Brasil, but you could not receive calls made to the phone from anywhere! And that is what the comment is based on. <<Never had the displeasure of using an I* phone. Just a G* one, thank God. Have you used a G* phone yet?>> Then it would seem somewhat foolish to purport some sort of "first hand knowledge" about the viability of the Iridium phone and services.. You report that Iridium did not work very well. What are you facts for making these assumptions? You've never used the phone! I would ponder a guess that you probably assimilated your perspective from baseless posts on message boards?? No? Baseless information obtained off Internet Message Boards is no way to formulate data about a given event, or product. So I would find it irresponsible to re-post such propaganda without an attempt to verify the veracity of such information. Investors in Globalstar claim continuously that "Globalstar" get's a bad rap from the press, and claim the media's statements are baseless.. Yet, these same investors mindlessly re-post data about Iridium that is same.. Baseless, and Hyperbole... And yes, I have used the Globalstar phone.. In Puerto Allegre, Brasil in the later parts of last November. Before the US gateway in Clifton was up for commercial service. When your short as much Globastar stock as I was at the time, you get on a plane and go take a look under the hood so to speak. On the same trip.. I took a friends Iridium Phone! And yes the Iridium phone worked fine.... I have also used the Globastar system phones at various Trade Shows.. Like the one where I spoke to Gunnar/Beerperdood at the NAB show in Las Vegas this year.. The phone and the service sound great.. Yet this still does not have the customers lining up at the door to buy. The comparison to Iridum's fate is useful information since Globalstar has stated that it intends to learn from Iridium's mistakes.. Persons from inside the industry that actually sold the phones stated that "A direct sales force was necessary to sell the product".. In Iridium's case. It was too little to late.. Ask TallBlonde!! That's why I see the job openings as a positive.. Sure it is exactly the course the Iridium management took. But, it would have been better if G* management had actually learned from Iridium, and put this "direct sales force" in motion months ago! PCSTEL
