News from Barrons Rearch Reports - re: SDLI SDL (SDLI-NNM) by W.R. Hambrecht (292.94, Oct. 2) We are introducing an Arbitrage Positive rating for the shares, given our belief that the merger with JDS Uniphase is likely to go through by the end of this year. JDS Uniphase announced on July 10 that it would acquire SDL, with each SDL shareholder receiving 3.8 shares of JDS Uniphase. The Department of Justice issued a second request August 24, under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, for more information on the transaction. Based on the closing price on October 2, the spread between the SDL stock price and the acquisition price is 14%.
