If I'm not mistaken, you are asking if there is an easy way to make free money in the stock market. The answer to that is almost eclusively no. If you have a truly market neutral position you will have a loss equal to your gain, not accounting for commissions and slippage. The use of margin in your example will do nothing but increase your loss due to slippage and commission (assuming you pay per share).

If it were that easy, everyone would be doing it. -g-

Jeff: Think about what you are doing. You want to sell your winners and hold on to (half) of your losers. I don't think that is a formula for success.
