A lot of brand new applications demanding the supposed speed of 64 bit will have to appear for it to form full tornado with a mass market.

For a while, anyway, you are probably right that the demand for 64 bit on the desktop will be niche, but there are still the servers. Demand for more power in the server seems insatiable at this point, fueled as it is by the growth of the web.

Lucius, MSFT is not committed to a 64-bit OS. If they started now, it would be several years away. If I'm wrong, please tell me!
