The effect of the first hikes were only starting to be felt in the third quarter. And Bob said some recent management pronouncements blaming the weak euro and high oil prices for poor corporate earnings make no sense at all. The euro has been in a bear market since the early part of 1999, with the biggest decline occurring in 1999. "So when you hear management talking about the euro, they're just going into the closet and bringing out anything they can find," maintains Bob. Similarly, for oil, prices bottomed at the end of 1998 and have been in a relentless upsurge for two years now. Bob says it's obvious Fed policy is the culprit behind corporate earnings.
