dougR, I have been experimenting with a short scan (in the initial stages) and have been manipulating the directional movement indicators. if one forms a curve of the difference between the positive (PDI) and negative (MDI); it is an curve that varies between about -20 to -50 (on bottoms) and 20 to 50 (on tops). If one hits at a top it could take several weeks to hit the next local minimum. A signal line can be generated by taking a moving average. The results are the following for version 0.005.
