After all, It's a Qualcomm System. Of course, now many have decided that data is the saviour for Globalstar.. Seems like quite a waste to me.. Heck, Qualcomm and Loral could have saved a lot of money and just deployed 9 or 10 MEO satellites. Chucked the User Terminals, and just built the Packet Modem.. No SP's, etc. Oh Well, I guess any revenue generated out of the constellation is better than nothing, no matter what the vehicle for revenue generation. My point to BobRE was that "Voice Quality lower than that of Globalstar" is not a synonym for "Iridium did not Work". Maybe one can find a degree of comfort in knowing that the reason Iridium failed was that "It just didn't work". Although those that actually used it know better. Maybe it makes them sleep better at night. The reason I shorted GSTRF was simple.. Management, or lack of it. Mangements continued slip in the deployment time table. (They even had the luxury of the additional 4 months the Zenit launch failure availed them). Yet the Ground System (Gateway) deployment were still in shambels. And of course, Management's contempt with shareholders and Wall Street. "We are not going to report subs, just MOU, and if you don't like it.. Go buy Wheatees.. I almost fell on the floor laughing at that CC. Can you ever imagine IJ saying that?? The non-stop double-talk, etc.. I agree that Globalstar has learned nothing from Iridium.. If they had, they would have hired a "Direct Sales Force on DAY ONE".. Did you see that "Job Description" on HOT JOBS for what appears to be a "Direct Sales Force?" Did my eyes deceive me or did it include the term "Cold Calls"? What a concept! But, instead they decided to wait around and see if VZ or VOD would ever have the "extra time" to query their "vast databases" and generate some potential customers.. But, I guess they are "just too busy". But of course, VOD will still want their "Buck a Minute" as the Gateway "owner. What a scam!! This whole mis-management thing just makes me ill! Many a long "revel" in the "visionary triumph" that BLS has accomplished over the last 8 years. I contend he has done little. Qualcomm and it's stellar management have done all the hard work, Gateways, System Software, User Terminals, Ground System Interconnects, GSM-MAP, ANSI Interfaces, etc.. Oh Yeah! In their spare time they also managed to develope mobile CDMA, liscense it to most of the World of Telelcom, Build a Terrestrial Infrastructe and Handset Business, Develop a World Class Fabless Semi-Conductor Busines, OmniTracs, etc.. I think they could have just "farmed out" the Space Segment. Giant Repeaters in the sky are not great technological feats in my mind. If only IJ was in charge of this company! PCSTEL
