October 11, 2000 INTERDIGITAL UNVEILS EXPANDED UMTS PRODUCT PORTFOLIO King of Prussia, PA, October 11, 2000 . . . InterDigital Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: IDCC) announced today its plans to expand its UMTS product portfolio to serve the third generation (3G) wireless market. In addition to continuing to develop system on a chip (SoC) modems for mobile end user devices, the Company now intends to expand its product portfolio to include base stations modems, radio resource management software as well as other devices targeted at the expansive 3G market. InterDigital expects to bring the products to market throughout the next five years as the 3G market emerges and grows. Mark Gercenstein, Chief Executive Officer of InterDigital, said, "We have over twenty years experience developing CDMA and TDMA core technology for both terminal units and infrastructure. Indeed, InterDigital is one of the few companies that has actually designed and fielded full TDMA systems and full Wideband CDMA systems. "Operators are committing very large sums of money to 3G licenses as they prepare to offer advanced wireless services, while equipment producers are investing heavily in new product development for this huge market," Mr. Gercenstein continued. The portfolio of 3G W-CDMA products currently under development by InterDigital includes: FDD and GSM Dual Mode Capable ASICs FDD, GSM and TDD Tri-Mode Capable ASICs TDD ASICs for base station applications Single-mode TDD ASICs for terminal units *Radio Resource Management Software Consistent with market requirements, the ASICs will include an integral DSP (Digital Signal Processor) and microprocessor, I/O ports, Bluetooth support, locations services support, multimedia support, advanced RF interface and peripheral interfaces for keyboard displays. As part of its product portfolio, InterDigital will also offer core modem building blocks to semiconductor companies and OEMs. These building blocks will include VHDL representation for both FDD and TDD modes, as well as Layers 2/3 FDD and TDD system protocol software.
