Only on the weekend, to the tune of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot.

The legend lives on from the Clown threads on down
Of the Head Fake they call New Economee
The market it is said never gives up her dead
When the skies of Novenber turn gloomy
With a load of tech stocks overvalued by more
Than their growth could sustain them
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early

The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from 9 years of expansion
As the bull runs go it was bigger than most
With a crew and good captain disillusioned
Concluding some terms with a couple of tech firms
When they left fully loaded for Nasdaq 5000
And later that night when the ship's bell rang
Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'

The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew as Greenspan did too
'Twas the witch of November come stealin'
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashin'
When afternoon came it was frzzlebun' pain
In the face of a bubble deflatin'

When sqwawk box came the old Analyst came on deck
Sayin' "Fellas it's too rough to pump ya"
At nine a.m. a main resistance caved in
He said "Fellas it's been good to screw ya"
The captain wired in he had margins comin' in
And the good ship and Janus were in peril
And later that day when it's chart went out of sight
Came the BK that Fleck been "fortellin"

Does anyone know where the small investor goes
When the red charts turn the millions to thousands
Heinz had to say they'd made it OK, If only they'd printed more money.
They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke wind and took prozac
And all that remains are the empty accounts
lost wealth and Gore more years

HO HO HO! Kaplan's been hitting the Glue Bong again, I see!!

Although I DID like the quote from Volker:

Former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker said on Friday, May 21, 1999: "The fate of the world economy is now totally dependent on the growth of the U.S. economy, which is dependent on the stock market, whose growth is dependent on about 50 stocks, half of which have never reported any earnings."

This one is right up there with "Monetizing Shareholder Ignorance"<GGG>
