While I don't subscribe to some of the punishments (like beheading for adultery), it is comforting to know that people will only be able to physically steal twice in Saudi Arabia... <VBG> But what I'm fixated upon is violent crime Cosmic... Deliberate unprovoked violence against a fellow man is the narrow line that keeps us from being a civilized people and reverting back to the law of the jungle where only the strong survive. And I'm VERY SUPPORTIVE of prevention... I'm a big believer in the NRA's Eddie Eagle program with teaches little children not to play with guns and to notify an adult... But the liberals don't like that concept.. I'm very supportive of putting troublesome kids in structured teaching environments like a military boarding school where they learn team-work and positive values in an environment that challenges them. And the reason that we see so much crime is that people are too permissive. Since the system has prevented authority figures from chastising children, as well as creating situations where parents can sue for any perceived slight against their child, children will do what they are instinctively programmed to do, push the social envelope and try to dominate their peers. That is the human animal instinct Cosmic... To try to become top dog, the big cheese, king of the mountain, accumulating the right to control both your competing males as well as to claim all the females as your own (whether they like it or not). And you do this by intimidating and breeding fear in anyone who opposes you. This is the nature of the human criminal.. Someone who is trying to scrape his way to the top of the mountain at the expense of the civilized "sheep" who are their prey. The small time crack dealer who builds his distribution networks, while physically defending his territory (usually through violence), until he contols his neighborhood, then several blocks, then maybe a couple of square miles,.. all achieved by either intimidating or eliminating competition. Violent criminals ARE DIFFERENT, since they resort to the instincts of competitive domination and elimination, if necessary. Violent criminals ARE Feral humans, and like feral animals of all types, most cannot be fully domesticated without strict order and stiff discipline in a structured environment. Now we have all of these liberal scientific types out there who tell us that within each criminals heart is a good man waiting to get out... Well, that may be true, but accompanying that "good man", is a tyrant who thrives on the power trip that comes with dominating our fellow man and claiming for themselves what another has accumulated (whether territory or phyical possessions). That the reality folks... Each of us has the potential for being Feral. Civilization was designed for the purpose of ensuring personal safety through strength in numbers (like herds of animals who unite for communal safety from predators), as well as mutual respect for one another's rights and priviledges. Making some kind of natural assumption that feral humanity only desires to be civilized or domesticated would be mistaken in the least, foolish in the extreme . There are those who seek to change, but I'm not going to just assume that they want to. THEY HAVE TO SHOW ME THEY WANT TO CHANGE . I want to see proof that, once they have committed violence against society, these felons truly have a desire to reform. And there are some shining examples of those who have proven they have redeemed themselves.
