Thanks, EM - The list would have to include Iridium, too.

I'm not sure what this means...

The MAN Metropilitan Area Networks that never made it with DQBD FDDI

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm trying to get a handle on the status of change, now, especially regarding 3G. I'm getting a little like Mike, with a different viewpoint: my view is that the cost of a worldwide buildout of 3G infrastructure is going to give a vote to the capital markets, on the future of telecomms. But do they understand the issues?
Right now, the thinking on 3G seems to be 'If you build it, they will come.' I get the feeling that in some offices, there is now doubt about that.
Also, WRT my recent post on WCDMA costs in Britain, [http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=14535712] looking at Armstrong's strategy to upgrade the T CDPD network to EDGE, and then use W-OFDM to enhance capacity, looks very cost-effective. I have the sense that he 'gets it'. (Please, no flames from the CDMA crowd!).
The cost to achieve 3G is one thing; the bet on TDMA vs CDMA is another - and really, no one knows, for sure. These are potentially 'bet the company' decisions, and I get the sense that a lot of people are taking a long, hard look at the assumptions.
Regards, JK
