Look at Houston,TX..... let's not use Texas as the litmus test of Bush's competence.

I live in Austin, where Bush's kids went to public school. Have lived here 16 years, and I would not say the Bushes (as Jessie,"stay out the Bushes" Jackson calls them) rule Texas. I was surprised to hear Dubya was running for Guv, but I knew he was a serious candidate when Molly Ivins went after him so hard. I couldn't figure out her concern. Bush got lucky that the historically democratic state was conservative and felt the dems had gone too far. Richards, bless her humorous heart, became viewed as a little caustic and sarcastic, not to mention complacent, and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Otherwise Dubya would nowhere near approximate a ruler of Texas, which he still does not. Herbert's career was Washington based more than Texas based, wasn't it?
