I don't pretend to be an expert in any specific technology but rather just a guy who believes in knowing what's going on where it eventually counts, which is in moving the product through the distribution pipeline and then selling it to the consumers. Consequently I spend a good deal of time doing "grunt work" in the field. It takes time and patience, but it usually pays off because in the end, if the products don't sell, the reported numbers suffer. I also like the fact that it gives me a leg up on the N.Y. analysts, most of whom rarely get beyond the confines of their offices. Many of them rely on what the "smooshed" CEOs and CFOs tell them, which is frequently baloney. I also find it useful to closely examine the reported numbers of companies where I know that their products have not been selling well yet their reported numbers show growth. It has led to some delightful findings that have allowed positioning ahead of the crowd. I don't think I dodged your question. In fact, I think I answered it rather directly. If my answer is insufficient for you, there is little more that I can provide. If you do not see AMD's truly remarkable market share grab as "kicking butt", then omit that phrase and substitute "one of the largest and quickest market share grabs in history, and one that occurred at the expense of a company that effectively held a global monopoly". Please also note that for many moons I have been warning that the PC sales situation has moved from massive growth to no growth to saturation. Would someone holding that opinion be long ANY companies that address this market? I've also been pointing out that insider sales have been a veritable torrent, right across the entire tech sector, for more than two years. In fact, insider selling therein has risen at parabolic rates. Now what does heavy insider selling usually tell observant investors? (g) Just one more reason why I have advised shorting the more insanely priced tech stocks. Best, Earlie
