A senior federal law enforcement official denied a Newsweek
report that investigators had settled on a single crime in the
investigation of how a video of Mr. Bush's debate preparations was
mailed to Mr. Gore's campaign last month. The official, who
requested anonymity, said several possible crimes were being
examined, including the interstate transportation of stolen property,
as the newsmagazine reported. But investigators were still struggling
to come up with a motive, the official said.
