UMC recorded highest monthly revenue in Sept.

Taipei, Oct. 8, 2000 (CENS)--United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC), the second largest domestic provider of wafer foundry services listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, hit its record high revenue last month.

UMC reaped revenue of NT$10.321 billion last month, a whopping hike of 365.57% from September 1999 and the highest monthly level ever for the company. For the first three quarters of this year, UMC's revenue posted NT$73.233 billion, increasing hugely by 253.84% from the same period of last year and fulfilling 83.22% of the NT$88 billion projected for this year.

UMC's gross profit rate and operating profit rate for its wafer foundry services in the third quarter of this year are estimated to be at least 50% and 41%, respectively.

The UMC will announce its third quarterly financial report and upward adjustment in its 2000 financial forecast late this month. Based on the three-quarter performance, local stock market analysts estimate UMC's net earnings per share (EPS) this year to exceed NT$4 while some institutional investors believe the net EPS is likely to hit NT$4.5.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd., the largest provider of wafer foundry in Taiwan, will release its revenue statistics last month and for the first three quarters of this year on Sept. 9. But the company's revenue last month is estimated at between NT$16.5-NT$17 billion.
