Demosthenes, Business Week had an interview with an automobile guru a few weeks ago. He said about 30% of the cost of a car would be due to electrical systems [not all chips] by 2010. Numbers not guaranteed. :)

But doesn't help us NOW.

Internet access by then is probably one chip, an antenna and a cheap flat panel display, some plastic. Cars have had microprocessors, or embedded controllers for decades.

Right now, it could come out that the government requires all car bodies be made of continuous 1 Gigahertz Pentium IIIs, and I don't think it would help.
