I don't know how "many" people there are "protected" in this way. And I suspect that neither do you. So I'm not sure you CAN know that the number of rage shootings outweighs the number of defensive shootings.

I wasn't compareing rage shootings to defencive shootings.
I was compareing "people have so much rage in them they can kill someone over children's sports, or 'roadrage'", to defensive use of firearms. Defensive use is not limited to shooting. If you attack me, and I shoot you, or scare you away with a gun, or hold you at bay until I can turn you over to a cop (all of which would be hard for me to do as I do not own a gun), then it would have been an example of defensive use of a firearm. Defensive uses of firearms outnumber the combined incidents of road rage shootings and murders over children's sports by an enormous amount.

The numbers for gun "defensive" uses are difficult to obtain.

If the young hoodlums were forcibly attacking this man, they should not be counted as victims of accidents:

"Westfall told police he was awakened by his doorbell at 12:45 a.m., and was armed with a .32-caliber handgun when he answered the door. When he opened the door slightly, the intruders forced it open, breaking a security chain and knocking Westfall down, according to an arrest affidavit."

They rang his doorbell, and tried to force their way in...

Let me ask you what you would have done if faced with the same situation?

I betcha it wouldn't have been to call the police...

You wouldn't have had time.....
