Briefing.com comments on WIND's Rapid Logic acquisition...

12:41 ET ******

Wind River Systems (WIND) 38 15/16 -1 13/16: Wind River Systems is continuing to build through acquisition activity today with the addition of Rapid Logic, Inc. for 1.43 mln WIND shares, or about $55 mln based on current levels. Rapid Logic has developed what they call the RapidControl Backplane, which allows one embedded code image to support multiple external interfaces. This allows access to and control of data located within an embedded device through various external interfaces. Think of it as a two-way, multiple foreign language dictionary that allows embedded data to be accessed and controlled through such interfaces as SNMP data, HTML, JavaScript, Java applets, XML, etc. Rapid Logic has been a Wind River partner for a few years, and Wind River has been distributing Rapid Logic product for the past year, so the companies know each other's products, technology, management and operating styles. Based on the integration job WIND management has done with Integrated Systems, formerly their largest competitor, we have no reason to believe that the much smaller purchase of Rapid Logic will present any significant integration problems. Wind River continues to beef up their technology through acquisition, firmly establishing themselves as the leader in real-time operating system software. Through their Wind River Ventures Fund, WIND has their hands in all sorts of startups in the embedded technology and smart devices markets, allowing WIND early access to new technology and establishing their systems as industry standards; not to mention giving their M&A department an inside look. Wind River is in the process of rolling out their VxWorks Advanced Edition, targeting the telecom/datacom market, VxWorks AE is designed to offer increased memory protection, making it harder to for developers to overwrite key code that can lead to system downtime. Wind River also is on the cutting edge of Bluetooth with their BlueThunder offering and strategic agreement with Ericsson (ERICY). The integration of Integrated Systems and the two smaller acquisitions of AudeSi and ICESoft help facilitate WIND's entry into consumer-oriented smart devices and deals with Sony (SNE) and Motorola (MOT) show the traction the company is making. All the acquisition activity has kept pressure on the stock, but long-term, WIND is positioning itself to further their market dominance in embedded operating systems. - Matt Gould, Briefing.com

If Gore wins the election, I think you can count on increased military funding for smart military technology.

Gore wants to win, and he is saying anything to win. I don't think this extreme liberal environmentalist is a pro military-spending person.
