Intel Names Splinter Executive Vice President
Company Details Other Executive Shifts
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 9, 2000--Intel Corporation today announced that it has named Mike Splinter executive vice president and general manager of the Technology and Manufacturing Group.
As executive vice president, Splinter adds responsibility for the successful ramp of key high-performance products. This includes the ramp of the Intel® Pentium® III processor to higher performance, along with its conversion to the company's new 0.13-micron manufacturing process next year, and accelerating the ramp of Intel's upcoming Pentium® 4 processor, planned for introduction later this year.
Splinter, who was formerly a senior vice president, continues to be responsible, with Sunlin Chou, for the Technology and Manufacturing Group, which includes all technology and manufacturing operations for the company worldwide.
In his new role, Splinter will work closely with Paul Otellini, Intel executive vice president and general manager of the Intel Architecture Group, to make Intel Architecture products successful across areas of design, technology, and manufacturing.
Splinter, 50, joined Intel in 1984 and has held various operations and technology development positions. Since 1988, he has led the company's component manufacturing operations. He was elected a vice president of the corporation in 1993, and named senior vice president in January 1999.
Otellini will take on sole management of the Intel Architecture Group, with direct responsibility for product roadmaps and design methodology; Intel's product initiatives in enterprise computing, including the launch of the Intel® Itanium(TM) processor family; and overall responsibility for Intel Architecture products business and strategies.
Albert Yu, senior vice president, and formerly co-general manager, with Otellini, of the Intel Architecture Group, will now take responsibility for Intel's new activities in optoelectronics, an emerging business for the company.
Claude Leglise, vice president, Intel Architecture Group, and general manager of the Home Products Group, will now report to Gerhard Parker, executive vice president and general manager of Intel's New Business Group. Leglise continues as head of the Home Products Group, whose charter is to deliver building blocks and products for new home digital devices.
In making the announcement, Craig Barrett, Intel president and chief executive officer, said, ``These changes allow us to align the charters of key executives to address issues critical to the future of our core businesses in Intel Architecture processors and platforms.
