If people lie to protect "national secrets" that are illegal activities then they subvert our democratic form of government- but I'm glad you can "forgive" that. Arms were sold for hostages- if you don't see the implications of that, and the terrible precedent it sets, against our avowed principles, than we have nothing more to discuss.

I think your priorities are wrong.

"National Security" and "the National Interest" have often been convenient cloaks for hiding all manner of absurd, inept, and counterproductive activities. That is why we have oversight by elected bodies, rather than allowing small bands of ideologues within the executive branch to establish - and act upon - their own definitions.
