you don't think that poverty is kept, huh?

Not sure what you're asking, but it's clear that ongoing physical poverty in this country is mostly the consequence of a poverty of spirit, of values. It is often passed from one generation to the next (lowlifes tend to beget lowlifes). Folks deluded into looking for a helping hand from government, instead of at the end of their arm , are particularly susceptible. That summation ain't nowhere near perfect or complete, but will suffice as a pretty good rule of thumb.

There is another factor malignantly affecting the "poor". Government interference with market processes disproportionately impact those at the sorry end of the bell curve. When some POS politician promises "free" stuff, s/he interferes with the superior spontaneous development of knowledge and consequent decisions that takes all of us further out of the hole.

Like yourself, I'll vote for neither of these bums. Unlike yourself, I conclude that GWB poses less of a threat to my children, grand- and great-. Shucks, my preference would be Homer Simpson. He'd inspire proper respect to the office and wouldn't even have to appear in person.
