NEW YORK (CBS.MW) - Silicon Graphics shares were halted during Monday's after-hours session following the company's earnings and sales warning for its first quarter.

Silicon Graphics (SGI: news, msgs) shares were halted after closing up 6 cents, or 1.6 percent, to $3.88. No reopen time had been posted prior to the publication of this report.

Also, SGI announced it would buy back up to 50 million shares.

SGI said its first-quarter loss will be 28 cents to 30 cents per share, including a $50 million one-time gain, on revenue of $420 million.

Analysts surveyed by First Call expect a loss of 14 cents per share.

During the first quarter last year, SGI reported a loss of $1.17 per share on revenue of $585.5 million.

First-quarter order backlog is $370 million, about $120 million more than the desired level, according to a company statement.

The high backlog is due to lower-than-expected shipments due to materials shortages and strong order momentum for new products.

Second-quarter revenue is expected to be $500 million to $530 million.

Total fiscal year revenue is expected to be $2.2 billion compared with $2.06 billion last year.
