I'm sure that oil companies have been buying research on alternate energies but it's not to keep them from the public. Oil companies are selling energy. Think if Exxon, for example, came up with a cheap, non polluting source of energy that had more energy than oil. Being #1, the profits would be mind boggling.

This reminds me of the decades of the rumor that the big three auto makers had a carburetor that raised horse power and got 100 miles per gallon.

I have heard the same thing ALL my life that research is bought up by the car companies for the same reason.Of course the reason they have to is so they can keep feeding those UNIONS....they have BIG appetites you know....
