I just want the world AND the laws to make sense. If we make laws that don't make sense, how on Earth can we expect them do what we hope for? I object to all sorts of things that don't make sense like buses and fuel trucks stopping at all railroad crossings.

I can't even tell you how many times I or other people have almost rear-ended a bus, fuel truck or other vehicle that stopped for absolutely no reason other than the law (and a rarely used RR Xing). Sometimes they put their flashers on well in advance, sometimes they just stopped with no flashers. I wonder how many firey crashes were caused by this practice. No one keeps the statistics so we just don't know. I suspect that at least some accidents were caused by it.

The fact is there was probably a crash that occurred once-upon-a-time and that this law was put in place to take care of it. Fine. But if you do that you should keep statistics to make sure the law works and doesn't end up not mitigating the harm you're trying to remedy. That was my point with the waiting period. It sounds good until you think it through.
