Getch: If China goes with CDMA One/1x/HDR (1xEV) along the lines Korea is going in current spectrum, then future spectrum licenses are not of much use for years to come - if ever. This is the joke in all the angst about Korea.

Whatever happens to the licenses conditions for new spectrum, in the real world in Korea, the build out for 1X is underway now, HDR (1xEV) is around the corner and if Dr J's slides on comparing WCDMA with 1X for voice and HDR (1xEV) for data or in combination are accurate (and if past is prolog, they are), then the need for new spectrum whatever CDMA flavor is used is moot, or at least years away in Korea. And with the Samsung enhancements for CDMA/HDR (1xEV) in current spectrum, there may never be any requirement for WCDMA at all in Korea.

And in the great big wonderful real world a few years from now, 1x and HDR (1xEV), or some modification thereof, may actually be the technology used while WCDMA fades slowly, slowly away.

Fun to watch.

Best.
