You just don't believe in free markets which means you don't believe in free people. Your answer to all problems ( complex or simple ) is put the state in charge.
You and your fellow statists will be defeated. I can't believe that after breathing free for 250 years, Americans will willingly put on the halter and bit and be led around by the state.

They'd rather simply, and for profit, just drill here and we'll just drill there--so what if it's more of America's pristine land which gets ruined in the process.

PartyTime, you have precisely made my point for me. Thanks. Democrats such as yourself believe you can model the complexity of the economy better than the markets can. What you're really saying is, put me in charge and I will make every industry bend to my will. I can understand all the causal effects and determine right from wrong, better than the stupid capitalist system can.

America's pristine land isn't getting ruined by oil drilling. We have one of the cleanest environments in the world. And it's because we're the wealthiest nation on earth. You want to clean up the environment? Simple, keep generating wealth. There is a direct correlation between environmental health, and a nations wealth. The wealthier a nation becomes, the cleaner it's environment gets.

You are quite right, these are complex problems. And if you think WhopperAl has the solutions you're as delusional as he is. For every government action, there are hundreds of counterbalancing reactions. Solar power isn't completely benign, and neither is wind power. It may look that way on the surface, but when you dig deeply into it, there are environmental costs which come into play we haven't even begun to realize.

Every year we develop better technology and knowledge regarding the use of oil. Every year we develop better knowledge regarding nuclear power. Every year we develop better knowledge regarding gas and coal burning technologies. And yes, every year we develop better knowledge regarding solar and wind power.

But the idea that you, PartyTime, have the knowledge, wisdom and expertise to model an entire economy and predict which source of energy is the ONE right one to use is ridiculously in the extreme.

I may not be able to figure out the one right answer regarding our energy needs as a nation. But I sure as heck can tell a wrong one when I see it.

It's blind arrogance like that which is truly dangerous to America's future. And make no mistake. Al Gore exhibits these exact same traits. He thinks he KNOWS the one right answer to every problem. Predictably, that one right answer always involves some government control over our industries, our liberty, and ultimately our lives.
