OT:
oz - the definition of spam varies *widely*. my definition is roughly "did i give implicit permission for you to send me this e-mail?"

if the e-mail is for a list you subscribed to, no.
if the e-mail is in response to a post you made, probably not (unless it's one of the "hi friend! i found your name on the internet, and know you want to buy this!")

since i was running an online music site, i knew that my address was in many places, so bands sending me information, publicists, etc. were NOT (to me) considered spam. however, i would go after other people...

the best site to check for information is www.mail-abuse.org ; the RBL is the feature most used by ISPs ("realtime blackhole list")...the usenet newsgroup for the best information on this is news.admin.net-abuse.email . certain bills have been put through the house of reps, but most are woefully inadequate...

harris interactive (HPOL) sued them for being put in the RBL and then dropped the suit...

hope this helps; PM if you'd like any more info...- bob gaj
