Piranha, Inc. Selects SGI Origin 3000 Series System
For Real-time, Multistream Video Encoding Service

Piranha Prepares for Launch of Professional Encoding Services for Entertainment, Sports and Broadcast industries

DALLAS, Oct. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Piranha, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BYTE - news), an innovator in data compression solutions, today announced that it has selected the SGI(TM) Origin(TM) 3000 series server as the development platform for a proprietary multiprocessor software encoding system that allows for real-time, multistream image processing, as well as state-of-the-art video compression.

``Piranha has developed a state-of-the-art data compression process that improves the user experience and reduces the overall bandwidth requirements that are currently strangling the Internet,'' said Carey Lotzer, Chief Scientist, Piranha, Inc. ``We intend to offer significant increases in available bandwidth with our compression products while offering an image that beats all current standards.''

``We believe that the real-time quality and dependability of the Piranha encoding process on the SGI Origin 3000 series server along with the speed of the Piranha decoding software will be a plus to many existing player technologies. We fully intend that this unique and innovative system will power the next generation of Digital Cinema/Video-on-Demand set-top appliances,'' said Don Ashley, President and Chief Operating Officer, Piranha, Inc. ``Today's announcement further defines Piranha's position in the professional, high-end marketplace for streaming media.''

SGI Origin 3000 series servers utilize the unique SGI NUMAflex(TM) modular technology, a brick-like system for constructing small to very large configurations from a common set of building blocks. The NUMAflex modular system allows users to build the optimum configuration one component at a time and adopt new technologies that map to their specific business needs.

``We are pleased that Piranha has selected the SGI Origin 3000 series server as its primary platform for its innovative video encoding solution,'' said Greg Estes, Vice President and General Manager, Telecommunications and Media Group, SGI. ``As I/O and bandwidth needs continue to grow, the flexible modular architecture of the Origin 3000 series server is uniquely suited to meet the expanding needs of Piranha's customers.''
