VeglaTM Enters Chinese Mobile Market

Shenzhen, China, September 11, 2000 - September sees that carrier-class VeglaTM ZXIP10-AS Access Server enters Chinese mobile market, which preludes the construction of Chinese mobile Internet backbone.

China Mobile (www.chinamobile.com) began to build its mobile Internet backbone extending to thirty-one Chinese provincial cities in June, offering fixed and mobile subscribers Internet access and virtual private networks (VPNs). It decided to deploy VeglaTM ZXIP10-AS Access Server of ZTE Co. in sixteen cities, including Changchun, Chengdu, Chongqing, Hefei, Nanchang, Shengyang and Xining. The access server offers high performance, dynamic load balance, and a lot of services.

The network will be built from October. It will feature digital subscriber lines (DSLs), VPN and wireless dial-up access. The wireless access includes ¡°mobile phone and notebook¡± and WAP accesses. The VeglaTM Access Server features these accesses.

Before that, the VeglaTM Access Server has been deployed by China Telecom (www.chinatelecom.com.cn), China Mobile and other ISPs (Internet Service Providers) in Beijing, Chongqing, Henan, Hunan, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Zhejiang and the like. The access server, an integrated intelligent platform combining programmable switching and remote access, authenticates subscribers at high speed and has a high processing capacity. It features strong compatibility.

In addition, Henan Telecom chose the VeglaTM Access Server recently to expand its existing network covering eighteen regions, offering sixty thousand ports that amount to sixty percent of the total in Henan. Before that, the access server had been widely employed by the carrier in Kaifeng, Pingdingshan, Zhoukou and other regions. The carrier is satisfied with its high performance. Its built-in SDH service offered optic connections in Kaifeng, shortening construction period.

It¡¯s reported that Shenzhen Telecom will offer CDMA service in October 1, 2000. Its
network, based on ZTE¡¯s 1900 CDMA solution, will offer customers mobile service in
Yantian District in the first phase.

The carrier began to install the CDMA network in September 12, 2000, and finished
installation and test before September 25. This is the first commercial CDMA network
constructed with local manufactured devices in China. Besides, the carrier installed a
CDMA BSS near China Hi-Tech Fair center to alleviate communication congestion.

Before that, ZTE had installed and run an 800-MHz CDMA test office in Nanjing, which
is part of Nanjing MAN (metropolitan area network) operated by China Unicom
