(TSE: NHC), a leading provider of carrier class test access and deployment solutions for the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service market, today announced that Easynet France a member of the Easynet Group, is using NHC's VCCS (Virtual Cross Connect System) and unbundled France's first Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) copper loop with the NHC solution. NHC Communications VCCS is the only any-to-any cross-connect capable of remotely performing 4 key requirements at the Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC) Central Office (CO) and the CLEC co-location; 1. Loop Qualification, 2. Provisioning, 3. Fallback Switching and 4. Service Migration. "NHCs' VCCS allowed us to quickly and efficiently provision our first DSL circuit. It is really nice to see how effortless provisioning will be using this system," said Herve Le Roy, Telecom Project Manager at Easynet France. The European DSL market is growing steadily as European regulatory bodies allow competitive carriers to provide DSL broadband Internet services through the "unbundling" of existing copper loops. As this trend continues, Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs) and other DSL service providers will be able to offer broadband Internet access to meet growing customer demand for high-speed Internet access. By July 2001, it is expected that Europe will enjoy the fastest-growing DSL marketplace in the world. "This relationship with Easynet further establishes NHC's position in the European marketplace," said Sylvain Abitbol, President and Chief Executive Officer of NHC. "NHC has been involved at the early stages of DSL technology development in Europe, through its wholly owned subsidiary NHC Europe, established in Paris, France in 1997." Competition among local carriers and local-loop unbundling already exists in Austria, Denmark, Finland and Germany. Similar plans are being implemented in France, UK, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden by January 2001, and by July 2001 Ireland is expected to complete this process. "Easynet is co-located in a rack environment in France Telecoms' Turbigo Central Office along with other well-known European CLECs", said Peter Benisti Vice President of Worldwide Sales for NHC Communications. "It is a privilege to be part of the unbundling of Frances' first copper loop for DSL service". NHC's relationship with Easynet follows a recent agreement with UUNET Italia, a global leader in Internet communications, for the provision of NHC's VCCS solution to aid in the deployment of high-speed Internet access to its customers throughout Italy. As part of its European marketing activities NHC will be participating in the first DSLcon conference in Europe from October 30th to November 2nd 2000 in Coppenhagen.
