BTW, people would probably enjoy reading Her-2: The Making of Herceptin, a Revolutionary Treatment for Breast Cancer if they haven't already. I believe it's now in paperback. It's a not altogether flattering portrait of Genentech at a fairly low point. It also gives a good view of the patient/patient activist perspective, together with the complex (and sometimes unintended) consequences of their activities. It really does show the competing interests in drug development among the scientists, the company management and the patients, as well as portraying the ups and downs of developing a new drug. Peter
