"Since costs are comparatively cheap versus installing fiber, and service can be almost immediate, doesn't this represent a strong Last Mile solution for urban areas?"

Sector- I'm not sure if you were asking a rhetorical question or not. If not then-- IMO the problem with fiberless is lack of reliability. The fact that OA needs a RF backup verifies this. I'm guessing this is the real holdup to widescale adoption. How do you overcome the reliability problem when trying to do voice/video over the connection.

I posted the stats waaay upstream for potential fiberless last mile solution in the USA. They were quite impressive. This stat counted all the buildings without fiber that were over three stories tall.

Sidenote: While half listening to MOT's CC, I believe they said they are ending their partnership LMDS(MMDS?) program with Cisco?? xMDS is a competitor to fiberless solutions and I was quite surprised to hear that. I thought they said it was a decision they both agreed upon because of problems in the marketplace. But I may have misunderstood what they said and will have to try to pick up the detail if I listen to the CC again. -MikeM(From Florida)
