Wrong, a stupid educated person will do what they are told.

An intelligent uneducated person will do what is natural or right, the same applies to to an intelligent educated person.

You equate uneducated with stupid, that is stupid. You can be educated and stupid or educated and smart. You can be uneducated and stupid or uneducated and smart. That is a very telling prejudiced comment on you.

You are right about the patriots, just look at Serbia.

Education is probably a more important bulwark against totalitarianism than guns

No disagreement there...

But the ability of the people to defend themselves is inherently logical from the perspective of truly educated people.

If people have to rely on government to defend them, then they are vulnerable to that protection being granted, or witheld arbitrarily by those in power.

Btw, I'm also VERY BIG on mandatory education before being permitted to carry a firearm, including the physical usage of it, as well as training people to be aware of when they can, or cannot, use one in self-defence.

It follows the logic of maintain a "prepared militia".

Ron

If I may spin a metaphor - guns are like a sort of insurance. Education is like the paycheck. The paycheck puts food on the table and a roof over one's [family's] head. Insurance does not do that. (Ordinarily.) However, insurance is nice to have when things go bad. Chances are things won't go bad, and most people live just fine in an underinsured condition. In a normal suburban life, guns are unnecessary. In a perfect world, guns would be completely unnecessary. (That eight-point whitetail buck would just walk up to Bubba, lie down and say "Eat me.")

Since the world is neither perfect nor just, I like having steady pay and some insurance. Call me spoiled.
