WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican George W. Bush (news - web sites) planned to campaign in Democrat Al Gore (news - web sites)'s home state of Tennessee on Tuesday, as a new Reuters/MSNBC poll showed him gathering new momentum on the eve of the second presidential debate.

The poll showed the Texas governor with a statistically insignificant one percentage point lead over the vice president, 28 days before the Nov. 7 election. But the trend in the daily poll has been clear since last week's first debate. Gore's 6-point lead has eroded while Bush has risen slowly but steadily.
