In Defense of Net2Phone

Jerry McGinn writes: Your analysis of NET2PHONE (The Sell Report,
The Telecomm Analyst, September 26, 2000) (NTOP), which included
a small peek at the deal with CISCO SYSTEMS (CSCO), is as
shallow as its conclusion: "Don't be bowled over by a
business-to-consumer Internet company that starts marketing its
software." Do you think CISCO, the giant of switch/router software,
optics, and the surrounding technology, would care about
NET2PHONE if the company didn't have something CISCO desires?

I hope you short NET2PHONE. Given the sector in general, you might even be lucky for awhile. But I
pity the poor people who follow this tripe you call analysis and spend anything more than bingo money
on your say-so. It's weak and uninformed. Also, I hope you follow-up some day when you learn what
NET2PHONE/IDT (IDTC) and its partners, AT&T (T), LIBERTY MEDIA (LMG), YAHOO! (YHOO),
MICROSOFT (MSFT), AMERICA ONLINE (AOL), CISCO, GENERAL ELECTRIC's (GE) GE Capital
and European, South American and African telecoms, are really up to and why all these
alliances/partnerships and deals have been done. I'll give you a hint: ubiquity in VoIP (voice over
Internet protocol). NET2PHONE and IDT have it now.

Mr. McGinn: Thanks for taking the time to write to point out NET2PHONE's many strategic alliances in
the VoIP sector. I think it's fair to say that The Telecomm Analyst will continue to cover NET2PHONE
given its status as the leading Internet telephony company. — James C. Condon

Steve Lindsay writes: I notice that NET2PHONE, DELTATHREE.COM, and PhoneFree.com are always
mentioned when it comes to Internet-protocol phone service. Has The Telecomm Analyst ever heard of
ACCESS POWER (ACCR), which owns FreeWebCall.com. To me, the site is the premier
Internet-telephony company on the Web. I am now using it exclusively for long distance, simply
because it works. There is not much static, and people can actually hear me with out much break-up.
I'm very surprised that you experts missed this one.

Mr. Lindsay: Thank you for writing. We are always happy when our readers can help set us straight or,
as in your case, shed more light on a topic. — J.C.C.

Steve Heath writes: The author of the article on NET2PHONE should be terminated. What is your
purpose? Your service does not appear to be fair or impartial. I will watch closely and I am considering
un-subcribing soon because reading your report has been, for the most part, a waste of my time.

No way, they don't do a one two punch.
