Intel to build microchip plant in Egypt

CAIRO, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Egypt's cabinet on Tuesday granted U.S. high-tech company Intel Corp (NasdaqNM:INTC - news) approval to construct a microchip production plant in Egypt, it said in a statement.

The project, presented by Intel to the Egyptian government, would inject $500 million of investment and provide about 3,000 jobs, the statement said.

The cabinet also agreed to allocate land for the project, it added.
