That sounds intelligent. But I don't think you can get what you want with ONLY the 2nd Amendment. You need new laws. As I've pointed out twice now, it is poorly written and contains that troublesome language to which so many people cling. Now, you are right, if there was a basic principle of private gun ownership set out, and then, a codifying of the parameters of that ownership, I too would be more comfortable. But probably for different reasons. Many people wouldn't get past the "demonstration of correct use" parameter that I'd insist upon. What you're proposing then, is a well-regulated militia. To join, you merely have to show proficiency and qualification. Though, I think the 50 years old limit should go. But, I don't want any senile old geezers shootin' up the town any more than I want 16 year-old hoods doing it.
