You really have to wonder about a company as prominent as LU not "knowing" that more than one-third of the quarter's anticipated profits were not going to be there until after the quarter is over. And it has happened before.

I will sometimes buy a beaten down stock with underperforming management because part of the potential upside is management improvements/changes. But if I perceive that management is not being honest with the investment community, that stock is pretty much off of my list until management changes.

I will have to read more about the situation to be sure, but it seems to me that missing profits by 40 percent could be announced before 10 days after the quarter ends. Two possibilities: (1) they didn't know (meaning their financial reporting is godawful); or (2) they did know (meaning they don't like us to know what they know).
