LU's problems are that they didn't anticipate the fiber optics revolution. As a result, they're behind with their technology. Until they're able to leapfrog ALA, NT and CSCO, they're likely to continue having company specific problems. That said, the street is throwing out the whole maternity ward with LU's bath water. JDSU is down, AMCC is down, CSCO is down, SDLI is down, NT is down, GLW is down, etc. In fact all the companies that are kicking LU's butt as well as all the companies supplying the fiber optics revolution are getting trashed in afterhours though there seems to be some support coming in for everything but LU.

Hey Tom, my opinion is this is strictly a LU problem and has been for some time. An analyst on the tube just commented on how they dragged their heels in the optical arena. Apparently a large part of their warning involved lower than anticipated optical sales. I would agree though, depending on MOT here in another half hour or so. This would be an excellent time for 'ole Serge to preannounce something positive. In the past he has not been shy about tooting his own horn. If he doesn't over the next couple days, I'd say there could be some kind of disappointment coming. Not necessarily a miss, but perhaps lower than anticipated revenues. If the market continues to sell off and we get no word from ALA I may sell the stock and hold only options. regards, sf
