``I don't think that there should be negative personal attacks, and I will not make any,'' Gore said in a Fox News Channel interview a day after his campaign launched an offensive against Bush's record as Texas governor and his tongue-tied ``bloopers.''

The Democratic National Committee (news - web sites) Monday put up a link to its Web site pointing out Bush's frequent inability to pronounce the names of foreign leaders and other verbal ''bloopers'' like his difficulty explaining how his $1.3 trillion tax cut would affect average families.

Gore spokesman Mark Fabiani said in a statement explaining the new tactic against Bush that the Texas governor ought to be able to ``explain his policies and address the issues without bumbling and babbling.''

Gore said he would not use that same language.

``I am not saying that, and I would not say that. I think that the comment was directed at the difficulty anybody would have in trying to make that big tax cut for the wealthy sound appealing to the average person,'' Gore said.
