Sir, could you please list your reference links? And while you're at it, also please include the costs for all the "military situations/exercises" this Administration has charged our military with the past 8 years....including all the costs of bombs, missiles, peace keeping, and all the etc's...

Hi Steven,
I'm so glad to see you and your always sound, logical analysis.
I know very little about the military- and your post was interesting. Personally I think government waste is so pervasive that I'm sure your comment about a 200+ billion budget being sufficient is true. I bet that if managed with some fiscal responsibility and less waste and graft, it would suffice and then some.

Do we have to have actual "threats" to justify a strong military? It seems we are often called upon to be the peacekeepers, the guardians, the tough guys, the enforcers for causes and countries other than our own. Do we need a bigger stick for this reason?
And of course, you just can't ignore that alien invasion thing.
But more money? No, I agree with you- ask the tough questions first and demand answers. But I don't know that either party is going to give us that, do you?

the US accounts for one third of all military spending worldwide

How much of that budget is attributable to actual costs of paying personnel?

Remember that many other nations pay their soldiers next to squat, or they conscript them...

Our all-volunteer force, in contrast, is pretty well-paid (at least at the O-4 rank and above ... enlisted folks are another matter).

And then there is the cost of all of those modern family oriented facilities...
